Ditto Randy! I’ve dealt with so many predators my nest box looks ridiculous but it’s paid off immensely. Best of luck!
Those little flying rats are fast and sneaky!
June 8, 2017 at 10:28 pm in reply to: Post-fledge day 7: Papa guarding box, Mama building new nest #4677Hooray Randy! I loved seeing dad bringing mealworms to roosting mom in the box today. So cool!
YAY!!!!!
Wrens are eating my mealworms like crazy and I don’t want to attract them but I can’t bear to stop feeding them to my blues :(
It seems like the blues get a few minutes of worms and then those #%}*^ wrens get in.June 8, 2017 at 8:11 pm in reply to: Post-fledge day 7: Papa guarding box, Mama building new nest #4671Yay Randy! Just as you predicted!
This was cute…I haven’t seen much of the babies for a few days but tonight one was actually laying in the mealworm bowl gorging. So cute!!!
I just saw dad bring mom a mouthful of mealworms into the house. So sweet! She is incubating four eggs. He is super dad! And quite handsome! I can’t believe how long it took him to find a mate….seemed like forever!
We had a horrible soaker last night! Dad is still primary caretaker. Mom is busy nesting. Haven’t seen dad or babies today but mom is in the house all the time with her four eggs.
My last nest had 11 pieces of pine straw! Yes, it’s time to remove the wren guard. You should be in the clear after 7 days! Best of luck!
It’s absolutely pouring and storming and I’m so worried about the wren guard flopping and catching mom inside. I went out with lightning all around and it still looks OK. Cutting up a good laminated shoebox to put on in the morning. And it kills me that my poor fledgelings are out there in the trees!
I might try the aluminum next year but the sides of the front opening need to be covered and it’s so hot here.
My male appears to have done 100% of the feeding and teaching. Mom is roosting and I never see her interact with the babies.
Dlibby, it’s funny that you said that because this is the very first year I’ve been able to enjoy mine after fledge. I’m loving it. Mine always leave and it’s a long sad wait until that awesome day in February when the couples show back up!!!
Praying for safety from those evil wrens!!!
Dad has pretty much done all of the work since mine fledged. He feeds them and brings them to the feeder. But mom is busy with her new 4 eggs.
