I am jealous of your deer Randy! Gorgeous!
Tammy, I am in coastal Alabama. Nest looks complete. Now I need to monitor daily for that first egg to put up my sparrow spooker, though I have never had a HOSP problem. HOWR were my worst problems last year, lost my first nest to them.
They went on and on after that first loss. Ended up with 12 babies. So tempted to put up a second box but don’t know if that would invite problems…Nest looks almost complete!
Crazy winter here, Osteosarcoma in my dog with ulnectomy and chemo, distal fibula for me all cracked up from falling down icy stairs a month ago, and now it’s 80 outside.
Needless to say, dog doing much better than I am, and I can’t wait for some bluebird fun! Thanks Randy! I wish I could tell if this was the same pair! They were very prolific, so I have lots of blues around…Wish I could put up boxes for all of them! We are way warmer than usual as well with 80 degree days…
Here’s to a great season!Nest is almost done! Am I the only one with bluebird fever?
Mine appear to be staying! All 12! Now to teach them to eat suet…..
So adorable! Happy flight little one!
Thanks Carol! I did give in since this this first year in over 10 that they have hung around. Totally turn their noses up at suet. I broke down and ordered more mealworms…I’m in very south Alabama so maybe they are spoiled by bugs? They are mowing the golf course today so not even interested in the mealworms…
Mine think the suet sucks so I am still going broke on live mealworms lol.
I have 12 this year and all are sticking around which has never happened even though it’s warm and lots of bugs. They are already going in and out of the house to check it out. Considering putting a box in the front yard which is at least 300 feet away and not visible from the back yard as I have so many…
This is my very first year having the blues overwinter in sunny south Alabama. They are totally rejecting the suet so I am a big sucker and ordered more mealworms. Lol.
It turned out to be just a bit of wind and rain. A few limbs down and the birdhouse kind of sideways but otherwise all fine. My daughter who lives on the beach in Destin had a pretty rough night though!!!
Mine seemed to have disappeared for a few weeks and I resigned myself to seeing them in February but kept putting out mealworms. Well out of the blue at least 10 showed up! They actually were going in and out of their old birdhouse!
One sad thing was to see them chasing each other out of the feeder!
Guess they are scoping out sites for spring. It was an amazing sight. Hoping they know what to do in the hurricane that is visiting tonight…Gin, I almost left the box open before this last brood but I didn’t want her to lay eggs in an unsafe place just in case. I am tempted to do the same thing again but surely they won’t try again!
Mine is hanging from a small tree in the backyard. About 30 feet from the birdhouse. Now my birds have their babies 2 doors down and the parents definitely remember where the feeder is.
Whew! They all made it out safe and sound! Ingrate parents have moved them two houses down as usual!Sigh of relief!
