Can you post a photo of that bird in the nest.

Maybe Dees or Wrens or do we say Sparrows. It would be good if you could check to see what is going on in your bird’s neighborhood.

Day 10. Almost 15 degrees cooler (76 vs 92) than last week. So I decided to get a last photo before fledge day. They must be enjoying the cool weather. They didn’t bother to wake up when I opened the box. The feathers of the one on top suggest a possible male.

That was the experience that I had. They didn’t seem interested in building a nest – just killed the eggs and ran. Removing the box was my way of denying my yard to them The Blues did not come back until the fall – just hanging around until the spring.

Have you seen the female bird feeding the young? Have you tried looking in the nestbox to see if she might be there. She would probably flush if she was sitting on the egg,

Day 6 was too hot for me to bother the young ones. I sat on my deck with the camera waiting for one of the parents to land with food. Went through 2 glasses of iced tea and dealt with the 92 degrees heat until the papa bird landed with what looks like a larva of some sort.

Mine generally stay in a heavily wooded area across the street from me. They are usually doing their nest building in the morning when it is cool and I rarely see them during the day until the eggs hatch. Then it is a lot of activity. But if it gets real warm they tend to feed in the morning and evening. There will be off and on activity during the rest of the day. Again the Bluebirds seem to ignore the rule book. What happen at my nestbox may not be what happens at yours.

Judy – After you upload a photo to imgur, click on it. A panel will show on the right of your screen with a list of different ways to share your photo. Find the one labeled “BBCode (message boards & forums)” and click the COPY button next to it. That will copy the “img” string of data that you enter in the post. Then prepare your note, hit return to space down and then right click and paste the string into your post. Do not copy anything before you paste your image string in the box or you will have to go back to IMGUR to retrieve the string again.

It will look something like this: img]https://imgur.com/xxxxxxxx.jpg[img. This one is done as text. I have left off some brackets because when I tried to paste this as text only the photo showed up anyway. Hopefully this will show you the format.

Tammy do we have a way to PM on the forum?

No problem Tammy. It was just a single egg in the new nest. But it is moot now that the birds have hatched. We have graduated from this thread. :hoppingblue:

I agree with Tammy on the actions of the wrens. I do not have much experience with the HOWR. The one time that they did destroy the BB eggs I just took down the box for the season. They have not been back since – although I have seen them in the winter back by my wood pile.
