I have a few second brood eggs now too. Congrats.
Tammy
That makes sense. I thought she was talking about two birds there,

fun! A couple of weeks ago my husband and I were looking out the sliding glass door and I said to him, “They should be fledgling any moment now” and as soon as I said that a bluebird baby poked his head out of the hole and made the jump. We were shocked at the perfect timing. It couldn’t have been more than 5 seconds that passed between the time I said that and the baby jumped.

woo hooTammy
Love the names! It fits. Interesting scenario going on there.

Yay!

OK. I give,…what’s a WRB. For the life of me I can’t figure it out.
Tammy
What happened?
Tammy
Yay, Connie. I have a new nest going too.
Tammy
Wish they were more predictable.

My daughter just had a bluebird start a nest recently. They started and finished it in a day and a half. So it’s definitely possible, Sassy.

So I looked back at our old forum and Carol (was that you carol?) asked Donna in WI the same question. This is what she said,
“I have used wren guards on Gilwoods with no problems, I made it go out the 2″ from the furthest edge of the front, not the door if that makes sense. Both times were on Chickadee nestings but I don’t see why it would be any different with bluebirds. I had sides on mine too.”
SO I guess I was thinking right. I’ll measure 3 inches from the front sides instead of the front recessed door. Woo Hoo! That old forum has so many great conversations. I miss it.Tammy
OK. So the answer is …no one really knows. Thanks guys.
So my next question is…on a Gilwood, the door with the hole sits back. Daughter’s box. To you measure 2 1/2 inches to the door or what? It seems a little weird only doing 2 1/2 inches from the entrance hole because of how the Gilwood is. How many inches do you all do? I think I’ll do about 3. Any thoughts.
No, David, the babies just fledged so no nest or eggs yet.Geesh…I don’t even have wrens, and I was glad about that. But it’s a friend and my daughter that I’m helping now so it’s kind of like I have them!

The parents do that (hover but not go in) when they are trying to get their babies to fledge. I hope that’s all that happened. I hope the snake didn’t have a meal already. Do you see the babies peeking. They should be peeking. So with that pole put a predator guard on. We can tell you how to make your own if you want or buy one from Wild Birds Unlimited.
Tammy
Exciting! How long has it been since they fledged?
