Really too soon to tell. Give it a bit more time. You will eventually see who’s going in and out. If it does turn out to be a HOSP, you can use the Van Ert on the box to catch him before removing the nest.

TMB StudiosI’ve had that happen before, Brenda. It is very annoying, especially because once they have been trapped, they tend to become trap-savvy. I once had a fox drag a trap halfway across our 200′ back yard, and bite the bait bird in half. Gross!

TMB StudiosMarcel, you are using the wrong links. You’re using the link to the PAGE where the photo preview is shown on Photobucket. You need to use the link for the photo itself. Don’t copy the address out of the address bar – use the link on the right hand side of the screen in Photobucket – the one that says Direct if you’re going to use the ‘img’ button, or just drop in the entire line of code from the IMG box…

TMB StudiosPosting images in the forum.
In order to post an image in this forum, you will first have to upload it to a photo sharing site that allows hot-linking. There are many free ones, Photobucket is one of them, but certainly not the only one. Then all you will need to do is find the direct link to the image you want to post (not to the page the photo is contained on – the link to the image itself. Most photo sharing sites will show you this link.) See screenshot:

Then, there are two ways of posting the photo here. Either one works just as well.
1) Copy the “bbcode” of the image, if your photo sharing site gives you that, and paste it into the message box. (In the screenshot above the “bbcode” is in the bottom box circled – the one that says IMG. It’s the code that contains the opening and closing [ IMG ] tags.)
2) If your photo sharing site doesn’t give you the IMG code, just click the “img” box just above your message screen. A box will open where you can drop the Direct link. (In the screenshot above, that’s the link in the top box circled.) The software for the forum will then automatically create the tags for you. (See screenshot below.)

TMB StudiosDonna, I didn’t realize you were talking about the animated GIF I posted – I thought you were talking about the OP’s image.
Animated GIFs are tricky on Facebook – simply uploading a GIF file as an image doesn’t show the animation. Posting the link to the IMAGE location (not the page location) doesn’t always show the animation in the preview, either – the viewer has to click on the link to see the image in its animated form on Facebook. However, I’ve uploaded the GIF to Giphy. If you paste this link into your Status box, the viewer may still have to click on it to see it play on their news feed, but at least it shows up as a preview with a “Play” button.

TMB StudiosDonna, there’s two ways to go about it.
1) Right click on the image and save it to your own computer, then re-post on Facebook.
2) Right click on the image, copy the image address (not the page address, but the address of the image itself. In this case, that image address is http://i63.tinypic.com/15zl1k8.jpg). Then go to Facebook, and in your Update Status box, just paste in the url of the image. When you click “post” the image should show up in your feed. I just tried it, and although the image didn’t show up in my post preview, it did show up once I’d clicked “Post”.

TMB StudiosBelinda, if the bluebirds are only “hanging around” but haven’t started a nest, or have started putting some nesting materials in but haven’t laid any eggs, then you could just stuff something in the hole so they can’t get in, and mount a new, suitable box on a metal post with a good predator baffle nearby. Then then might adopt the new box instead.

TMB StudiosI got it to work for you, Carol. When I followed the link in your post, it took me to an album page. I tried lifting that url, and it didn’t work. But when I right-clicked on the photo itself in your album, and selected “copy image location” and used that link with the “img” button, it worked.
I’m not sure if that’s a Chickadee nest or not. The dried leaves make me think TUTI, but odd that it would be in a shrub, since TUTI are usually cavity nesters.

How exciting!

TMB StudiosThe nestbox and water is what will attract them more than the feeder, since bluebirds are not generally “feeder birds”. Most of us have had to teach our bluebirds to come to our mealworm feeders by gradually introducing them to it, so that’s more of a process. If you put your nestbox in a desirable location (see Nestbox location tips you stand a good chance of attracting them, but it may take time, and you will have to be patient.
