I wish I knew! I am in extreme heat country and mine usually have the sense to stop by June 1! We are all in this craziness together, it looks like! Mine have 8 day old eggs at the end of July. Unheard of!
I was talking to the guy at out local WBU store about an unrelated topic today and he told me not to get my hopes up. I definitely haven’t!
But I’m armed with tons of mealworms and a mister system to give them the best chance I can…What more can you do?I just leave mine. Never had harm come from it!
That’s how my first nest went this year. The last one I had such high hopes for! he eventually didn’t make it either. I blamed wrens but he was intact, in the nest, fed until the end. I feel your pain. I don’t know how your your heat is but beware, they will probably try to make a very quick turnaround.
Mine seem to do the same. It’s as if they have a preset number that will hatch and if something goes wrong they will try to make up for it. Mine lost their first nest and I feel like that’s why they are going for an insanely late 4th try here.
So adorable! praying for those cuties!!!
Funny, I am very far south and I never saw mine after fledge until this year. I was missing the best part! They definitely don’t overwinter here, they leave in summer and come back in February like clockwork…This is just an amazing year getting to see them beg at the mealworm feeder and make clumsy attempts to get in.
I totally thank my neighbor two doors down for converting his very wooded lot to a nice flat green lawn. They love it there! So at least I get to see the babies for a while!Yay!!!!!
Thanks Randy! We are lucky to be cooler than usual this year but I really don’t expect for that to continue…
Wonderful!!!!
My pair have been insanely reproducing this year as well! Really too hot for this last batch of four but mom is incubating like a trooper and dad is full time parenting the last batch!I just can’t believe the heat you guys are getting so far north of me. Only one 90 degree day so far. Crazy…
Tough situation! Hope the baby is OK. At this age they are good at playing dead…
Ugh!! Why do I live here?????
But , that being said, my blues show up in February like clockwork. This is the time when they have always been long gone and I have 4 eggs!Praying for all of our little overheated birdies!
Cage feeder is also great amusement watching the mockingbirds try to get in….
10 day forecast is all 80’s. Unreal for my location. They decided to stop at 4. Thank goodness! All shiny and healthy looking. Trying not to get hopes up but have plenty of juicy mealworms waiting….
