We have evil rat snakes that love bluebirds. It’s awful. I love Mr. Kreuger. Even though I’ve never caught one in his trap invention I think it deters them. They don’t want to enter that mesh maze I guess.
Fourth brood! Sadly lost all of first brood so they are making up for lost time. Dangerously late in the year as far as heat goes but 4 eggs this morning looking gorgeous and shiny and unheard of weather in the 80’s for the 10 day forecast in South Alabama!Trying not to get my hopes up.
I believe they will remove a deceased baby sometimes but mine never have.
Cage feeders are worth every penny!
Susan, I can’t imagine 5 babies smushed up in my little birdhouse in this heat! I’m glad yours have a bigger house!
Four eggs today. Will keep my fingers crossed that there is not a fifth tomorrow. It’s going to be way too hot to deal with five!
I find this site much more fascinating than putting in my billing at the end of the day..much more user friendly as well.
I often have an egg that doesn’t hatch. 3 of 4 of this past brood hatched…
Thanks Gin! I saw there was a section for off topic stuff but as Randy can attest I was too lazy to go there. Ha!
Seeing a hawk and a snake in one day would have me a little flipped out. I see hawks but they are really high over the woods across the golf course from me and so far not too close. Knock on wood. Maybe they are busy eating snakes. One cans dream, right?Yay! Running too late to check if I had 4 today. Really hate that as far as timing goes…Must try to get up on time tomorrow!
Yay! Congrats on a successful hatch!
Bedford looks so nice! Except snow… Not sure about snow. Daughter went to summer camp just outside of North Conway and I loved it…Parent’s weekend was an awesome break from the heat.
In fact I put out hummingbird feeders today just in case they are all whacked out too. Usually pass through in September, last year was August, so I thought what the heck. Everything is upside down so I may as well put them out!
This is definitely the strangest bluebird year ever here. They are always long gone by now. Now I have a nest with 3 eggs. Last year I was all hysterical about a June fledge. I don’t know but it seems like others are having weird late nests too.
I hope there are not tough topic police here. I am about to do nocturnist because I hate call so bad. Ha! Then I can watch my BLUEBIRDS all day long. See, I can stay on topic!
