Carol…..Sorry to hear that you do not have any blues yet. I think they will show up soon. You have been so good to them for the past 15 years they would be crazy not to come to your welcoming acres. Fingers crossed they will return in the next few weeks.
Good luck
Judy – MichiganThat is great news. Mine have been gone too. They are now back checking out the boxes. Winter passes by quicker with bluebirds in. Yay‼️

Carol how is the transfer to peanut butter suet going? My blues seem to have gone on vacation about mid August. Showed up again late September. I put out some dried mealworms for them. Papa Blue was protecting the feeder. Last year was a first for them staying all winter. Good luck.

Thanks for the update. I enjoy seeing all the progress.

Yup….I’m with Carol on being a worm supplier, hope it all works out great for you. I like my internet also, being out for one day is like not having electricity…..lol. Cable I would not miss as much. Congratulations on your final 3 fledglings‼️

Nice to have you back David. Thanks for updating the tally. I think most people have had a really good year with their blues. Sorry to see it wrapping up, they have been very entertaining for the past 5 months. Mine have gone missing since August 20th.

With only 4 people reporting……………baby blues add up to 48. I’m sure this number will grow a lot, David’s April 30th report said 42 had hatched. We’ve had a lot going on since April.

Good picture, looks like they have full tummies and resting peacefully.

David, I’m wondering if you are still keeping track of the blues eggs and fledglings?
As we are winding down on 2021 bluebird season…………I’m would like to know how we did on adding blues to the sky.
Here are my totals: Backyard blues had 3 broods. 1st brood 4 eggs – 2 fledged. 2nd brood 6 eggs – 3 fledged. 3rd brood 5 eggs – 5 fledging tomorrow. Total of 10
Frontyard blues had 2 broods. 1st brood 5 eggs – 5 fledged. 2nd brood 5 eggs – 5 fledged. Total of 10.
My grand total is 20. Others please post your totals. Thanks!

Carol, so happy that your blues have brood #3 going. I think your heat shield will be helpful and keep them cool until the heatwave passes. My house wren has finally left the area. Happy about that. Stay cool.

Yep 4 beautiful eggs. Always enjoy your photos. This year is the first year I have had 3 broods from one pair. My other pair looks like they have stopped with 2 broods…..unless they get moving soon. They are still hanging out with the family….coming for mealworms twice a day. Maybe too much rain here. Good luck.

How exciting 4 nestings in one season. I was wondering how late they might start a new nest. Looks like you will have eggs in August. Enjoy your extended bluebird season!!!

I agree with David don’t give up yet. Just today I had mama blue looking at a box. Her second brood fledged 18 days ago. Normally she has an egg laid 2 weeks later, but we have had weeks of rainy weather. I think the weather delayed her plans. Mosquitoes are so bad here ….sure hope all the birds get busy eating them. We can’t do anything outdoors without getting attacked. Good luck.

Phillyblues….I have paired boxes in my front yard. They are 15’ apart and face in the same direction (south). They are placed one behind the other. Bluebirds claimed the box in the back and the tree swallows took the one in the front. The tree swallows fledged today and the bluebirds have about another week to go. This is the second nesting for the blues. My backyard blues fledged Saturday. I cleaned the box and put it back up…..looks like another pair of tree swallows are trying to claim it.
If you decide to remove a box I would leave the box they were looking at in 2019. My front yard birds are not bothered by road noise, traffic or walkers. Good luck.
