lol Chris there’s no shame in being a certified bluebird nut. I talk to the baby bluebirds when I open my nestbox to check on them. Anyone nearby might think I lost my mind. lol. I do not care. It is what it is. We do what we do because we love those “blues”.. meaning bluebirds.
Congrats Connie!
Thank you Sassy. My mother passed away recently. I miss her dearly but I know she is in a better place.
The baby bluebirds are doing well. Six more days until they fledge!
Sassy welcome back!
Congrats Carol!! I believe yours and mine may possibly fledge the same day. Wouldn’t that be cool!
Troy welcome to the forum! I cannot think of anything else to add other than what the other members here have already said. The emphasis being placed on House Sparrows being very important. They need to be eliminated in order for the bluebirds to be successful in raising and fledging their young. Don’t hesitate to ask us if you have anymore questions. Many of us have a good amount of years under our belts looking after and helping out bluebirds.
Matt and Carol you aren’t the only ones…I’m 4″ 10″ and have to use a small stool too. Just remember great things come in small packages. By the way, Matt congrats on the new hatchlings!

Hi Carol mine laid their 1st egg this morning. It would be really neat if ours were on the same nesting cycle.
Hi David it does seem like they are nesting a little earlier. Mine usually don’t nest until the second week of April. Wouldn’t it be nice if this were a bumper crop year for all the bluebirds?
That is great to hear Rich. Keep us posted!
Hi Carol you can also use a small hand held mirror by holding it above the nest and slightly tilting it so that you can see any eggs in the nest. Try not to touch the eggs as the oils of your skin can clog the tiny pores of the shell which the embryos inside need to breathe.
Great news David! Mine just completed their nest! Maybe the bluebirds are trying to get a head start this season.
Great photos!

Carol and Phillyblues regarding the Juncos. I want them to leave too. Time for Spring!
Hi Carol and everyone,
No nest yet here. They are looking however. I usually see them in the mornings mostly. I hope this year is kinder to the all the bluebirds out there. They had a terrible winter from what I understand. Folks in the Midwest and the South finding bluebirds dead in their nestboxes as the birds were trying to escape the cold.
Carol I saw your post about the ones you found dead in your nestbox. That had to be totally devastating. I wish a better year for you and the rest of us trying to keep the bluebirds going.– Dana
Hi Julie! Nice to hear from another Pennsylvanian! I just love bluebirds and so happy another pair is using my nest box. They are in the nest building stage right now. I totally agree this Spring was horrible and I blame the cold spells for the loss of the 1st brood. Now that summer is in full swing I am hopeful for this pair. Thanks again for replying!
Julie that is so cool about the male bluebird and how he dealt with the HOSP!
Sometimes I wish all bluebirds dealt with HOSPs that way. -
