Good thinking Susan, here in this area of PA we see snakes on and off through out the summer, but we are close to the woods. Never saw one near the BB boxes or any of the other bird boxes but then I am not outside continually to monitor that situation. So far no poison ones but they exist here as well.

Congrats Susan on the second successful hatch. Not as hot here in this area of PA, no 90 degree day so far, in the 80’s and quite humid the last few days.

Good going Randy, wonderful news. I hope you are successful with a third nesting. I have just about given up since the HOWR moved in and knows the entry holes in the BB boxes quite well, even though now that they settled in another box he does not seem to bother the other boxes or deposit sticks in them anymore. We shall see.

            Hi Gin:
I can only tell you how this box is made. I had no idea there were so many different kinds of BB boxes. I know people buy these I have seen them in their shopping cart and last year a family of 4 was raised in the same type of box right here in my yard.

              Carol:
The BB boxes I have came from Walmart and the front door swings down. There is the hole in the door and the door does not close off the entire front of the box, there is a ventilation opening up there, and that is where the HOWR got in. I did not mean to confuse you but the HOWR is now in another box that was previously occupied by the Chickadees. I have kept the BB box taped shut to discourage him reentering it. It is a constant battle when you try to make a home for BB’s but well worth it in the end most times.

Great news Whitney. I am sure you will be successful this time around. You have learned so many new things about BB’s as have I.

Susan, it saddens me so to read about your recent loss. I know what that feels like, just know you are not alone, we all feel for you. I am happy to hear that Mama and Papa are back. You did the best you could while they were in your care, and we have to accept that they keep plugging along, and we have to do the same. I keep looking every day hoping I will see another pair of blues, but so far no luck, but I am not giving up.

Wow Whitney, what great news. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. It sounds like you have done everything you can do to have a successful hatch if they build and lay eggs again.
                    Keep us informed.

Oh Whitney, I am so sorry to hear what happened to your BB eggs and nest. I know it is heart breaking. I think a raccoon got two of my babies and maybe hurt Mama BB as she disappeared not too long afterwards. Papa hung in there for a while and then he disappeared, and one baby survived but I know its fate was sealed when it fledged. My heart is still hurting from the loss. Have not seen a BB since. Maybe next year will be better for both of us.

That is music to my ears Randy. I am so glad she is back and all is OK. I thought of you and my baby blue many times while we were away. Glad your news is good news. Keep us informed.

How exciting Susan, I know you are thrilled to pieces. I have never had the opportunity to see the fledglings after they fledged. Last year we had to leave the day they fledged and I never saw them again. This year you know the story. I was hoping I would get another set, but so far not a BB in sight.
I am very happy for you.

Thank you Lisa, I cried too, but you are right I have to think of all the BB’s that have made it because of people like you and the other members. This group is wonderful. Thanks to everyone.
We are back from our cabin and a HOWR had my empty BB box full of sticks, they were removed but there were a few more in there today. The door to the box is now open, that should discourage him from that abode. No more BB’s this year is my guess.
