Hi Judy:
Mama has continued on the front box on and off and later this afternoon I saw the male go in and out of the box taking some material out. Then later he was back and sat on the roof singing and chattering. I thought it was maybe a different male looking for a mate. I saw Mama once later this afternoon. After dinner and before the storms started I walked out and checked both boxes and they both have perfect bluebird nests in them. Go figure. They both are damp on the front of the nest, hopefully they will dry out, but after tonights heavy rain they might be worse. No eggs in either but I will keep an eye on things.
Any blues out your way yet Judy…
Connie (PA)Wow, love watching Mama feed the little ones. I see there are three and I can see one more egg. I guess the other two eggs are hidden by the babies. Such a wonderful part of nature to witness.
Connie (PA)Hi Judy:
I had a few pairs stop earlier in the season but they didn’t stay. This pair has been around for a while now and Mama kept landing on the window screens. I covered one screen and she stopped going to that one but she goes to the one above my kitchen sink and clings to the screen and she also sits and defecates on everything, mirrors on my husbands truck, porch swing, window sills, porch, decks, you name it. Then I found this dried out grass in the bottom of the back box, but today she is at the front box. I do believe there is something wrong with her. The front box has the bottom covered with leaves and I know it is her doing it. I see her bring this stuff in, some so big she is unable to get it into the hole. It has no form to it, just wet and dried leaves and a few sticks. I can’t figure it out, none of it makes sense. I think she has the instinct to build a nest but not the sense to know how to do it. Well time will tell what is going to happen.
Our weather is not ideal but we are not due for any snow, heavy rain with possible thunder storms tomorrow and wind gusts accompanying them 50 to 60 mph.
I hope your blues turn up soon. I didn’t have any till May the last couple years, this is the earliest I have had a pair.
Connie (PA)David, Bluebird season is here too. Your nest is further along than mine, but at least they have a start. I can’t post pictures, I have no idea how, but I enjoy seeing the ones that are posted.
Connie (PA)David: Glad your mama BB has decided to start a nest. Mine are still going from box to box, but I did see a piece of dried grass in one of them last night and if it isn’t a piece that was just stuck to their feet or feathers, nest building might start soon. We are going to get pretty chilly again for a few days so that may halt any progress for a while. I agree strange your female would go to the neighbors yard for dried grass when it is so close by, but they do, do some very strange things.
Connie (PA)LatanaAl, so glad I peeked in today, 6 beautiful bluebird eggs. So exciting, I will tune in again tomorrow to see them start to hatch. Mine are still trying to make up their minds where and when to build a nest.
Connie (PA)Ditto here David, in fact I see them do that at both boxes, in and out but no nesting material.
Connie (PA)Hi Gin:
I am happy
with you. Five white eggs is exciting. Keep us updated on the progress of the nest.
Connie (PA)Hi Gin:
Thanks for getting back to me. I am still battling the same problem. I did try putting decals on the windows when she first started this nonsense, but she ignored them. The worst part is she is defecating all over everything, window sills, porch, chairs, you name it, and my husband is not very happy with it. I am hoping she will start nest building soon, someone around here said hers start in the middle of April, so hopefully mine will do the same.
Your idea about the glass wax is great, but I know I do not want to block my view. At least she is not chasing him away, they do things together and hopefully things will settle down soon.
Thanks again.
Connie (PA)LatanaAl, loved seeing the video, I think you did a good job. I enjoyed it very much.
Connie (PA)That is great news Lisa. So glad they survived the last bout of less than desirable weather.
I have a pair that has only staked out their territory. The female is strange, she is going from window to window chirping. I covered the first one I saw her at, but she had found the rest of the ones in the house. Hopefully she will settle down when she mates, but only time will tell.
Connie (PA)Hi Lisa:
Did you get to check out the nest over the weekend and have they hatched?
Connie (PA)Hi Everyone:
I apologize for posting almost two identical posts, I thought the first one to Carol got deleted, but I was wrong. Please ignore one or the other.
Connie (PA)Hi Carol:
Things have gotten worse with my female BB. She is now going to almost every window in the house chirping non stop. I can hear her inside my home with no windows open. I don’t see the male near her 99% of the time. I do see a pair later in the afternoon sitting on my clothes line or pole and the female goes into the feeder for some dried mealworms, but it might be a completely different pair.
I highly doubt she will be able to take care of a nest if she even builds one. She is just so obsessed with seeing herself in the windows. It sure has me stumped.

Sassy. Reason: Repeat post
Hi Carol:
My female blue has gotten worse, she is now at just about every window in the house. She chirps incessantly and I don’t see the male with or near her 99% of the time. I do see a pair of BB’s come to get dried mealworms and drink water in the late afternoon but I have a feeling it might be a different pair. I am completely stumped on what to do about her. I could be wrong but I don’t think she will mate or take care of a nest of eggs, she is too abscessed with looking at herself. ☹️
