Hi David:
I didn’t know she would do that before incubation started, but it definitely relieves my mind.
Thanks,
ConnieOh Judy, I can’t tell you how sad your experience makes me feel. I am so sorry this happened to both Mr.
and to you. Before getting involved with a bluebird box and sitting and reading articles on the web and joining this group I never realized how nasty and mean a HOSP could be. I just never paid any attention to them. I hope you are able to eradicate every one of them in your area.
I so hope another male shows up and finds a mate and you have no more problems with HOSP.
Connie (PA)Randy, loved the picture of Mama sitting on the eggs. Amazing she does not fly but it is great for you and your camera. I think my female is a youngster also, not sure about the male.
How many eggs did she end up with?
Connie (PA)Wow Lisa those birds are wasting no time, you are on the second nest and mine have not put an egg in the first one yet.
Connie (PA)David, 4 eggs is great. My pair come back and check out the box but as of this morning no eggs. It is discouraging, but all in due time. It is still pretty chilly up this way so I guess they will know when the time is right.
Connie (PA)Hi BZ:
I hope by now you have seen Mama back on the eggs. I am keeping good thoughts for a happy report the next time you write.
Connie (PA)Hi Gin:
I did save the nest that was not used in the back box. I have it sealed in a plastic bag. In the meantime Mama built a gorgeous nest in the front box. I took pictures of it because she did a better job than any previous birds ever did. She and he come and check it out and I have seen them put a Chickadee off the front of the box several times, but so far not a single egg. I guess they are waiting for warmer weather, and I am overly anxious, but I know in due time nature will take its course.
Thanks again.Connie (PA)
I am in awe with the knowledge and kindness of this group. I will return the nest to the second box with some dried grass and see if another bluebird makes it a home.
Thanks for enhancing my
knowledge.
On another note mama was building like crazy this morning and she removed the leaves that were in the nest.
ConnieDavid, thank you, but as of now I have no pictures to share. I thought I was going to have pictures like you of eggs, but this pair has different ideas and they are in control but if they ever decide to get down to business I will message you.
Congrats on the 4 eggs. Hope you found # 5.
Connie (PA)Wow Gin thank you, I did not know that. The pair was at the box this morning and she did remove a piece of grass after spending some time in there doing something, and off they went. I did remove the nest from the back yard box hoping another pair might come along and use it. I see Papa look in there from time to time but they don’t seem to spend any length of time around it. I hope that wasn’t a mistake. I kept the nest just in case I need it. It had no bottom to it at all. Maybe that happens more than I know too.
Connie (PA)Good going David. Keep us informed about what is going on.
Connie (PA)Good to know I am not the only one with sparse nests.
Connie (PA)Carol, that-is wonderful news. My nests are sparse too, but perfectly cupped. They are also wet after our storm last night. Of course it is still cold up here we had snow today, but it is to warm up by Thursday, and hopefully they will dry out.
Connie (PA)Judy I went out to check the nests after the 1 1/2” of rain and very gusty winds last night and found both of them wet. Didn’t see as much of my female but the male was on and off the roof of the front box. We had snow here this AM so I figured that might have something to do with it. I did see them both this evening. Weather is supposed to improve as the week moves on so am hoping things dry out. I don’t think I have two sets of blues, just one very paranoid female.
Connie (PA)Hi Carol. So glad your Blues are building. I am hoping to see an egg in one of the nests this week.
Good luck with eliminating those nasty HOSPS. I hope they never find my boxes.
