Awwwww! I missed that cute stage with mine since I was out of town. We are at the day 14 play dead and no more peeking stage! It’s killing me!
Congrats! Mine are Day 14 and I’m off work starting Tuesday. It will be hard to pry me off the patio though I have so much to do!
Yes, I wasn’t about to relocate this 5 foot long thing. Sorry nature. First snake I’ve ever dispatched.
I am so jealous of your self control! I monitor daily until day 13. I’ve had too many things go wrong and I wish I could relax and enjoy more!
And I have always always caught and relocated snakes on my property until I found one with 5 baby bluebird lumps who came back the nest day looking for leftovers.
Gin, luckily I haven’t trapped one with mine. I lost two nests to snakes last year and got serious. The last attempt fledged with no snake ever entering the guard.
However, my plan is hedge clippers to hack one out if I ever get one. It seems to have had a definite deterrent effect which is not supposed to be the point.
Agreed you have to watch closely if you do a Krueger because the parents would definitely not enter with a snake right under the box.Someone told me a while back to place some blades of grass across the opening so that you could be sure it was abandoned. Worked well. Then I could be sure they weren’t returning.
You would not believe the skimpy tiny nest mine built for round two. I guess they were in a hurry but it is 2 inches tall at most. All babies looking good so far. Day 10.
My male is like this and I am so glad because we have plenty of predators here. They swoop really close but have never actually made contact with my head.
I’m so sorry…This year started out that way for me too. Hopefully, fingers crossed, so far this nesting looks happy and healthy.
