      Hi Randy:
I am glad your BB’s have taken up residence in your BB house again. Enjoy your vacation, sounds wonderful and I am sure your BB’s will be fine. I await your return and report on how things are going.

Congrats from me too Dana. I saw a pair of blues today down the road a ways, I keep hoping a pair will take up residence here soon.

          Hi Randy:
So glad you have a nest started, slow this Spring is good for the BB’s. We just got an inch and a half of rain, and I figured that was one reason I have not seen any blues, but that does not seem the case since you have them with the same type of weather. It has started snowing on and off, we are supposed to get an inch over night and cold weather for the next few days, temps down in the 30’s the next few nights.
I know it was May before I had my nesting pair last year and the year before so maybe that is how it works around here since I do not see any blues in the winter, even though they are probably some that stay, not just in my particular area.
Keep us informed on the progress of your pair.

I have seen a woodpecker lately using one of the bluebird boxes. He or she does not leave a mess, it just seems to come at night and leave in the day time. Interesting to say the least.

Phillyblues that is wonderful news. I keep looking out at my boxes but not a blue in sight. I am very happy for you.

                Hi Susan:
I think by now we are all fed up with snow and cold, but little we can do about it. I heard BB’s singing a few mornings ago, but could not put an eyeball on them. Nothing lately around the BB houses since I saw one male on the first day of spring except a black bird every now and then trying to find a place to lay it’s eggs. Thank goodness they cannot fit in the opening in the BB box, but they do try. We are due for some warm weather this weekend so maybe we will see some activity. I have never seen any BB here in the winter, but then all my husband puts in the feeder is black oil sunflower seeds and I have never heard of BB’s eating those.
If I get a nesting pair I will get an order out for some live mealworms. I wish you lots of luck with the HOSP problem, so far I have avoided having those nasty birds and hope it remains that way.
Good luck to everyone in this Spring season with lots of BB’s at your boxes.

Goodness Dene, its done me so much good to see a picture of your baby blue. Our weather is so spastic, rain, snow, cold, wind and even a spattering of warmer days. I don’t think I have even a slim chance of seeing any BB’s neseting till sometime next month. The lasts prediction for us is for another 4 weeks of wet, cold weather. Hopefully after this period is over I will be lucky enough to see a pair of blues take up residence in one of my bluebird houses.

                    Hi Randy:
Good to hear it was only the snow that was holding up things with the BB’s. Our weather is lousy but not from snow. We are getting rain and today it is like London, socked in with fog all day long. Thanks for the good wishes, I hope they pan out and I get a productive season. Wishing you the same.

That is wonderful news. Even though I have seen one BB sitting on top of one of my boxes there is no sign of any other activity. I am hoping with you living in Lancaster PA and me north of Pittsburgh I will see a pair or more moving in soon.

                          Hi Lisa:
I am so happy to hear about your BB babies. I wish I could say the same for up this way, but not time yet.
I also am so sorry to hear about your furbaby. I hope the surgery went well. My SIL has her dogs rear leg amputated several years ago and she was so happy she had done that. He lived for 3 more years and she felt he deserved that chance.
                          I am thinking of you.

                            Hi Phillyblues:
So sorry your weather has been so lousy out in that area of PA, we have not had the massive snowstorms you have been getting out here in Western PA, but it has been bitterly cold from time to time. We are expecting an inch or so today. Hope this is the last for all of you out that way and the end of winter for all of us.
I saw my first male BB at one of my boxes this AM, what a gorgeous sight to see on the first day of Spring. I get so excited when I see them, and then I anxiously wait to see if they are going to take up residence and shower the joy of watching them raise a family on me.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your female last year, wishing you better luck this year. I am sure you will see more as the weather gets warmer.
                            Keep warm and keep safe.

                              Hi Dene:
How refreshing to see those babies. I am getting so excited to see if I get a pair or more this year, but I have to just be patient, it is way too early for that to happen here in Western PA. I am so happy for you, please keep us up to date on their progress.

                                Hi Randy:
Is it all that snow or the hawk that has lowered your expectations? I know most of the East coast got several lashings with the Nor-Easters slamming down on you folks out that way and maybe another one this coming week. We have been colder than normal for this time of year, but I have seen at least one BB twice or maybe 2 BB’s once. The nights get awfully cold and we get snow from time to time so it will be some time here before nesting starts unless Spring comes in with warm days and nights quicker than normal. I hope things improve out your way soon.

Oh Lisa, that is wonderful news. My hat is off to you for being #1. It is too early here yet for nesting but I will be watching for the first ones to start checking out the boxes even though I know they won’t take up residence here yet, or at least I don’t think they will. The last two years that I have been bitten by the BB bug, they started in early May and I expect the same this year if I am lucky enough to get them to rent out one of my spaces.
I just read 5 eggs, you are so lucky. Keep us up to date on the happenings.
