Thanks Dana, but still no luck. I think I have successfully gotten rid of my HOWR’s though.
Good luck on your second nesting. I am so happy for you.
Connie (PA)Hi Deb: I am so sorry to hear about you losing your whole clutch. I just covered my two BB houses with plastic bags. I had a pair of HOWR’s building a nest in one, the male was singing and singing as he sat atop, so covered it, then I saw they were in and out of the other BB box, so hopefully that will deter them. I know what you mean about showing up in a blink of the eye. I have no BB’s but won’t get any either if the boxes are taken over by HOWR’s.
Wishing you luck with the BB’s rebuilding and starting another family.
Connie (PA)I have not given up yet Carol. I read my journal from last year and a pair of BB took up residence on May 22 and started building a nest on the 23rd so there is still time for them to show up.
Our weather has improved, even though there is more rain on the way.
I took a 2 mile walk tonight and where I generally see them at the farm down the road there was not one to be found. I am hoping with the cold, wet weather we have been getting they have not shown up here in large numbers yet. Time will tell.
Connie (PA)Wow Renee, that is great news. You are so lucky having so many nesting pairs. Four boxes here and nothing in any of them. Weather has not been great, but maybe it is just a lack of birds of this year. Not sure which. Congrats on your success.
Connie (PA)Congrats from me too Dana. Too bad about the one you lost, but such great news to know 4 have successfully fledged. I am still on the waiting list for a pair to take up residence here.
Connie (PA)Thanks David, so very good to see. It was such an exciting thing for me to see new life begin. I am still waiting to see if I am going to snag a pair of BB’s this season.
Connie (PA)Dene, what fabulous pictures. The one of Mr. BB is top notch, and the babies are just so cute. You are definitely getting some hot temps, we are in the low 60’s here in Western PA. Keep posting those pics, I thoroughly enjoy seeing them.
Connie (PA)Oh David, how beautiful to see. Waiting for some follow up photo’s.
Connie (PA)Carol, I hope I am as lucky as you are. Congrats on your new babies to arrive. Keep us informed on how things are going.
Connie (PA)Hurrah!!Carol, that is the best news. They knew who really cared for them. Looking forward to hearing how many eggs you end up with.
Connie (PA)Congrats Tammy on the 5 BB babies and the encouragement of my BB’s returning, but I have not seen a single BB feather since that day. I cannot say I am not disappointed but the last two years since I got hooked by BB’s they showed up later in May, so I am not giving up hope. I am just overly excited to see them again.
My congrats to your daughter also.
Connie (PA)I hope you are right Tammy, but so far this morning I see no activity. Boo Hoo.
Connie (PA)Thanks for the encouragement Randy. I saw a male BB, not sure if it was the same one sitting on the top of the box about 5 hours after the first pair left. I actually thought the first pair was returning but during the evening I saw no activity and nothing yet this morning. Have to be happy that I have Orioles and Hummingbirds to keep me entertained for the time being. I also saw a wren come out of the box and a Chickadee chased it off. I checked the box but there was nothing in it.
Connie (PA)Such a beautiful sight to see David, both the 5 eggs and Papa bluebird guarding the home. Nothing here yet, but I never give up hope. We are getting lovely weather also, and it sure does feel good.
I am also waiting for the Hummingbirds and the Boston Orioles to appear. Can’t be long.
Keep up the good work with the pictures, they are great.
Connie (PA)The pictures are great David. We are still waiting here in Western PA for a nesting pair. Weather has been awful, snow rain, wind with a few nice days. I did see a pair today down the road from here, so hopefully they are going to check out my yard, and decide to spend the summer here.
