Hi Cari: I also had an egg disappear but it was after they hatched. I saw it in the nest and a few days after the others hatched I thought I would remove it and I could not see it, so I took the nest out and lifted the babies but it was gone, so I assume one of the parents removed it. The other four did fine and have now fledged.

Hi Rich, sorry I called you Rick earlier. I am so glad :shoot9: you took care of that pair of HOSP and hope you don’t get any more.
Congrats on the first BB egg. My female is still building, she has been at it for about a week but her first clutch just fledged a week ago either Friday or Saturday so I would assume she is busy taking care of her 4 babies.

Judy, to be honest with you I am not sure, it is like cotton, maybe the fluff from a sycamore tree or from dandelions. The nest is like the Ritz so luxurious and soft with all the moss and fluff. Amazing from such small birds.

Phillyblues, I too am sorry to read about your TRES. Don’t give up hope there is still time for a pair of blues to turn up. Sending good vibes your way for that very thing to happen.

Rick, so happy for you. It is a darn shame people have to fight off the HOSP, and I am glad to hear there is one less to contend with. Good Luck with your Blues, hope to hear some more good news from you soon.

David, if you can give me some guidance on posting pictures I will gladly share them, but I have no idea on how to begin.

Judy, I agree they are the cutest little birds, we have them here at the feeder all winter too.

Renee, I just realized it was warbler eggs that were destroyed and not bluebirds. I know nothing about warblers and wren guards but I may have to read up on them. I hope the Bluebird eggs are OK. Still sorry for your loss.

                        Hi Renee:
I am so sorry to read about the loss of the eggs. How one little bird like a HOWR can be so destructive is beyond me but from reading many posts and articles I have come to be very cautious of them. Maybe you should give it another try with a wren guard after the first egg is in the nest. I can understand you not wanting to be disappointed again, but no guarantee if the blues build in a tree cavity, the same thing won’t happen with a HOWR or raccoon or other predator. Looking forward to reading what you decide to do.

Carol, thank you. I have not seen any of the youngsters but they are probably around. I was feeding them live mealworms or trying to but no success either early on or during the brooding period. I cleaned the whole mealworm feeder today and put some fresh live ones in there but didn’t see a single bird of any kind enter the feeder. I have to start using them up, they are beginning to die.

Oh Dana, just read your post. I am thrilled for you, I know how exciting seeing the nest in the box can be. I am hoping for the second nest soon. I have no idea if there is a time line between the fledge of the first brood and the start of the second nest, but I know it is pretty fast. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they return for another go round.

Great news on the fledge David. Sorry you missed it. I actually witnessed both broods take wing last year, do not know if I will be that lucky again, but it was a real joy to watch. I hope you are around to catch the event next time.

Judy, I never tried a paired box. I am assuming one faces towards the South East and the other North West. Does anyone have any luck with getting BB’s in a box facing the NW direction? I won’t try doing this this year, heck I can’t even get something to look at the back yard box. At least nothing yet.
I do not have a sparrow spooked but thought if I needed one I would get a Mylar balloon from the dollar store and cut it in strips. They used to have Mylar gift wrap too.

David, the latest pictures are great too. Have the little ones fledged yet? Mine will take wing around the 31st. It has been an interesting year for everyone by the sounds of it.
