I lost my first nest last year and one egg survived. Mom continued to roost and feed him but sadly he died at about 5 days old. They went on to have 4 more broods in that box after I put up the wren guard. It was scary because they were laying into August and I am in South Alabama and I was afraid the heat would get them but all of the subsequent nests did fine.

I just calculated and we are leaving for vacation on hatch day for my second 5. Grrr. Luckily I have my pet sitter well versed on worms and other creepie crawlies!
I remember last year how miserable I was watching the most gorgeous male try to get his mate! He was pitiful standing on that box wagging worms for what seemed liked weeks! She finally took a liking to him and we had 5 great nestings, so much that a neighbor came over to ask where all of the beautiful bluebirds were coming from!
Awwww!!! my favorite photos!!! Love it!!
We fledged 4 already this Spring. Have not seen them back yet but frankly haven’t been home much but the parents are hauling the worms next door like crazy.
Congrats on the eggs!!!! Yay! Mine finished 5 more Sunday but this Spring is starting out WAY hotter than usual so I pray for no August surprises this year!
Last year I lost a nest to howr. This year with my first brood I was so preoccupied with my dog having cancer that i didn’t get around to the wren guard. All fledged fine. Now I have second nest with 4 eggs and wonder if it’s too late to put the guard up or if I even need to.. Papa blue is super stealth and aggressive and bombs me if I even get close to the house.
Have patience, poor freezing people! My first nest fledged last Wednesday! Bear with me when I freaking about the heat this summer if they keep going like they did last year..
Wishing you a great season! Feeling a bit guilty at having a whole nest who should fledge soon, but the summer here is so miserable, I don’t know what is worse!
Dene, it seems like fledge day here is always during a scary storm day and I have never lost one that I know of. On the other hand, I always miss the fledge!
My babies are chirping SO loud this year! I am always worried about predators and I feel like I am guarded to the hilt but this joyful bunch scares me….Otherwise happy blues!!!
Thanks for the good wishes! Desi dog is HOME and doing fine, hopping around. Life is better than last week for sure…
And the baby blues are growing so fast! I thought they were a week old but I missed monitoring a few days and think they hatched sooner than I thought. They are turning blue with the beginning of feathers…
You always cheer me up Randy! I am so happy to be able to get excited over the blues after an awful few week’s with my dog’s health.
They are such an inspiration!Mine hunkered down during the bad storm we had 2 nites ago but they are only a week old. I was terrified the house would blow over. All 4 look great and sprouting some feathers!
